Slice Test Status Update
(Sep.5, 2005 – CMS bulletin
contribution)
The EMu
Slice Test is well underway. The peripheral electronics for six
chambers have been set up. These chambers form a 20degr slice on the
YE+2 disk and will become a part of the large 60degr
slice for the
Magnet Test and Cosmic Challenge. Optical fibers have been
installed between the Peripheral electronics at the disk and the
TrackFinder and FED electronics in the Counting
House. Various trigger
configurations have been tested in the last months: externally provided
triggers by a set of scintillator panels and
internally generated
triggers based on the Peripheral and TrackFinder
trigger electronics. The latter is now the default trigger source for the EMu Slice Test.
In recent months, the Spring and Summer Slice
Test workshops provided an excellent opportunity for off-site collaborators to
join and do in-vivo tests of various pieces of hardware, firmware, and
software. Apart from establishing a stable trigger path a first batch of
calibrations events were successfully sent from EMu's
FED to the FRL electronics of the Global DAQ in the Counting House. In the
upcoming month we expect to test and run with the final peripheral trigger
boards and provide data to a dedicated DAQ column of the Global DAQ. Moreover,
we will start to add more chambers beyond the initial 20degr slice.
