Slice
Status Status Update
(Jul.6, 2005)
Below you'll find a short
summary of last week's activities. The Slice Test activities concentrated
almost solely on restoring any sort of trigger to our set up:
- The SectorProcessor and TF
backplane were taken to UF by Darin and tested by
Alex. Both turned out to be fine and are already on their way back to
CERN.
- We have tested and swapped various VME power supplies
and fan trays to diagnose the TF crate. Unfortunately all available VME
power supplies turn out to be specifically designed for other types of
crates and cannot function in the TF crate. The Rice trigger crates, which
would have been a perfect replacement, are in use as a Peripheral Crate
(awaiting the final version to be fully operational) and FED crate
(awaiting a production/prototype-version DCC which allows for a S-Link mezzanine). Both are still highly relevant to
our set-up.
- We are currently debating with UF the shipping of
one of their test-stand crates to CERN. In the mean time, I would like to
find out whether the VME crate that earlier this year got returned from
one of our FAST sites could temporarily be reassigned to the Slice Test.
- We are in the process of setting up a scintillator trigger at the disk. A basic scaffold
structure (not attached to the disk or chambers in any way) will hold two
large (80x80cm2) scintillators which
I got on loan from our HCAL colleagues. Hopefully by Monday we will have
such a scaffold in place at which moment we can attach the large scintillator structures. We have collected all the NIM
and HV electronics for this trigger and today we have tested both of them
at the SX5 floor. Tomorrow, I'll try to rearrange the TTC/trigger layout
so that we are prepared for next week.
- Last Friday we have had a meeting with the CMS GLIMOS
(Christoph) about our water problem and the use
of the DSS system. For your information, I have sent a copy of his summary
to the slice test list. The bottom line for me is that we will "lock
& tag" the cooling water supply to our racks for an indefinite
period.
- Regarding the HV, the slice test chambers will not
run HV until I hear from Alex/Petr/Valeri.
Today, i noticed however that all roller doors
have been repaired so I hope that we will have the HV back anytime soon.
- Next week we will have the Slice Test Summer Workshop
here at CERN.
Best regards,
Frank
